Just three miles from the small town of Nazareth where Jesus grew up, archeologists are unearthing the sophisticated city of Sepphoris, the city Herod Antipas constructed as his administrative capital. This glorious city have been one of the great modern cities of the ancient world. The beauty and excitement of Sepphoris, with its Hellenistic ideas, wealth, and power, certainly impacted Nazareth and exposed Jesus to secular culture at a relatively young age! We do not know if Jesus visited secular cities like Sepphoris, but we do know that he understood their Hellenistic culture. This is where probably Jesus have learnt and developed his Greek language!
